LAN - Local Area Network

Local area networks (LAN) are communications system that connect devices through Ethernet connections.

Most LANs interconnect computers, servers and storage devices providing users the ability to share access to devices and data located on the LAN.

Most LANs are housed into to a single building or group of buildings such as homes, universities or office buildings.

LANs have the ability to transmit data at a very high rate of speed and can be connected to other LANs over telephone lines, creating what is referred to as a wide area network (WAN).
