Comcast Plans Nationwide SIP Trunking in 2014

[_Title]

Comcast is in the process of test marketing SIP trunking services in 3 major US markets with plans to roll out the VoIP-based calling service nationwide by the end of 2014.

"Large customers want to purchase Ethernet network service and combine it with a PBX and manage it more efficiently than before," said John Guillaume, vice president of product management and strategy at Comcast Corp.

"It's a great service offering for business. It's a natural combination when you go into the midmarket," continued Guillaume.

Comcast plans the roll out of SIP trunking on a national scale by the end of 2014 and it is also working on expanding its PBX interoperability.

By moving into SIP trunking Comcast is looking to gain traction and expand it's client base into larger corporations. With SIP trunking in its portfolio Comcast is diversifying it's offerings to the coveted enterprise clients.

Guillaume conceded that Comcast is running late to an already maturing market, but he insisted that competing with telecoms is a task that Comcast does very well.

"The portfolio is what we're most enthusiastic about," he said. "We want to make sure customers pull voice along, like with every Internet and data service we do."
